Snellman Builds Long-Term Climate Work in Partnership with Biocode
The traditional family-owned food company Snellman, known for its high-quality meat products and ready meals, has been working steadily on climate action in partnership with Biocode. The collaboration began with product-level life cycle assessments and has gradually expanded into company-wide Scope 1–3 emissions calculations. Now, Snellman is preparing to set SBTi targets as part of its sustainability strategy.
In the early stages, Biocode primarily served as a tool provider, but over the years, the partnership has deepened. Today, Biocode supports Snellman as a strategic partner as the company takes further steps in its climate work. The collaboration has gradually expanded from product-specific calculations to group-level reporting.
Our deepened cooperation with Biocode has helped us understand the bigger picture and plan more effectively as we’ve moved into group-level reporting. As the volume of data and requirements increase, we’ve been able to leverage the platform’s capabilities step by step to develop our long-term sustainability work. We will continue on this path.
Vilma Wiitakorpi Björkman, Snellman Group’s Director of Communications and Sustainability
From fragmented data to a unified foundation
Snellman has actively consolidated scattered data from different locations, systems, and business units into a cohesive foundation for its sustainability work. The company coordinated extensive internal efforts to collect the data, resulting in a clear and practical dataset that now drives both emissions calculations and strategic decisions. Snellman continues to strengthen and expand this dataset as part of its ongoing sustainability development.
The effort has involved a wide range of people, not only from the sustainability team, but also from Snellman’s leadership, group finance, and various business units. The goal has been to ensure that knowledge and understanding are distributed throughout the group and that the calculations support Snellman’s core business operations.
A Step-by-Step process – Built on trust
The collaboration between Biocode and Snellman shows how sustainability work can evolve into a group-level transformation—and how essential it is to find the right pace and working method. The partnership has been built on trust and shared learning.
From the beginning, I’ve been confident in Biocode’s expertise. It’s a big challenge to stay on top of all the new developments that seem to keep popping up. With Biocode, this sustainability journey has gone smoothly but not too seriously. The projects have been carried out diligently—with room for laughter along the way.

Build and measure your climate work with a carbon footprint calculator
High-quality data from your own operations is essential for accurate carbon footprint calculation. In Biocode’s calculator, this same data can be used for:
- product-level carbon footprint calculations
- company-level carbon footprint calculations, and
- SBTi FLAG target setting and tracking.
The calculator turns your data into insights through diverse visualizations and graphs. It shows the activities generating the highest emissions and helps you plan emission reduction actions within your climate program.
When all climate data lives in one place and you track progress systematically year after year, you can measure the impact of climate actions in the long term. And to make this possible, the tools must be both accessible and easy to use – as well as cost-effective.
