More accurate emission calculations through expanded data and modelling

Sonja Granbohm

Biocode has integrated the Climatiq database into its emission calculation infrastructure, bringing access to more than 60 databases and over 900,000 emission factors. This significantly expands the range of high-quality emission data available for our customers and supports more accurate, transparent, and up-to-date emission calculations.

Over 900,000 emission factors in one comprehensive data source

Climatiq’s databases include ecoinvent, EXIOBASE, Agribalyse, the European Environment Agency, the GHG Protocol, and many others. It is the largest scientifically validated emissions factor database in the world. Emissions can be broken down into fossil, biogenic, land use (FLAG), and deforestation emissions, as well as by gas, including CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, and other gases.

Biocode’s own modelling complements international data

At the same time, Biocode continues to develop and maintain its own modelling infrastructure. In particular, we are building our own mass data analysis tool for land emissions, enabling us to model land-related emissions at scale and with a high level of detail.

Data from Climatiq will be paired with Biocode’s own modelling and with information from other verified, scientific sources. This allows our customers to select the most appropriate data for different calculation needs rather than relying on a single database or methodology.

More accurate and continuously improving emission calculations

For our customers, this means access to continuously improving emission data. Climatiq data is updated monthly, while land emission factors are updated annually in line with the latest Land Sector and Removals Guidance.

By combining broad international datasets with Biocode’s own scientific modelling, we can provide increasingly accurate emission calculations while keeping the underlying data aligned with the latest scientific and methodological developments.
