Looking ahead to 2026: Biocode’s product development roadmap

Emma Valli

Marketing & Product Manager

The end of 2025 is approaching, and it’s time to look ahead.

We’ve taken a step back at the drawing board to outline the product development roadmap for the Biocode Carbon Footprint Calculator for 2026. In particular, we focused on one key question:

Where does carbon footprint calculation cause the most headaches for companies today?

Based on our observations and reflections, we grouped our findings into three clear objectives that will guide the development of the Biocode Carbon Footprint Calculator:

  1. A better user experience – consistent functionality and an intuitive interface.
  2. More value for money for customers – improved analytics and easier use of data.
  3. Time savings through calculation efficiency – more bulk editing and better consolidation of calculations and data.

Let’s take a look on what this means in practice.

1. Better user experience: carbon footprint calculation should be easy breezy in Biocode

Carbon footprint calculation can be quite complex in time to times. The calculator itself shouldn’t be.

In 2026, we will place a strong emphasis on usability and clarity across Biocode. Our goal is fewer clicks, clearer views, and results that are easy to share.

In practice, this means for example:

  • A unified look and user experience across different calculation tools, making it seamless to move between product-level and company-level calculations.
  • An easier farm-level emission calculator, encouraging producers and farmers to collect primary data. In 2025, we built integrations with farm planning software that significantly sped up data collection. In 2026, we will focus on refining the user experience.
  • Clear in-tool guidance, while keeping the calculator so intuitive that instructions are rarely needed during everyday use.

The goal is simple: users’ time should be spent making decisions, not learning how to use the tool.

2. More value for money: from numbers to insights

Many companies already calculate their emissions. The real challenge is understanding what to do with the results.

In 2026, we will further develop Biocode to better support decision-making:

  • More advanced analytics and views that highlight the real drivers of emissions and help you understand climate impacts over time or in comparison to benchmarks.
  • One-click PDF reports for audits, reporting, and customer requests. In 2025, we introduced Excel export and import features, which will now be complemented by a visual PDF format.
  • Expansion of product-level calculations from the current cradle-to-gate boundary toward cradle-to-grave. In addition, we aim to introduce water and biodiversity impact assessments into product calculations.

This enables sustainability, procurement, and product development teams to work from shared, reliable data.

3. More efficient calculations: less manual work

As product portfolios grow and data accumulates, manual work quickly becomes a bottleneck.

That’s why a key development focus is helping our customers scale calculations without increasing workload:

  • Bulk editing across multiple calculations when assumptions or input data change.
  • Group-level emission consolidation, allowing emissions to be viewed across brands, sites, or legal entities.
  • An emission factor management panel, enabling companies to manage their own emission factors alongside Biocode’s emission factor database.
  • Simpler mass product footprint calculations, supported by planned integrations or bulk data import and export features.

This is particularly important for companies moving from one-off calculations to systematic, continuous emission management.

Is this a promise?

We can commit to the overall direction: Biocode will continue to evolve toward greater automation, AI-driven functionality, and a more user-friendly carbon footprint calculation experience.

However, this roadmap is not a promise of specific features or release dates.

At the core of our 2026 product development are:

  • reducing friction in everyday work
  • helping customers get more value from their Biocode license
  • making carbon footprint calculation scalable, not heavy.

We’re excited about what the coming year will bring — and above all, about building it together with our customers. 💚
